Sensirion's newest logistics centre in Debrecen completed through our Group's investment

Sensirion, a leading manufacturer of digital microsensors and systems, announced at the start of the year that in light of Sensirion Hungary Kft.'s rapid growth it would expand its Debrecen site by a further 7,000 m². Construction of the new high-tech logistics centre accordingly began in February, on the build-to-suit basis already used successfully for the first plant. As before, this development — worth some HUF 4.5 billion — was delivered through an investment by WX Sharing Kft., jointly owned by the Szinorg and Xanga groups. In the first phase, Sensirion's new high-tech logistics centre was completed in record time, by October 2024.

At the ceremony, Dr László Ábrahám, Managing Director of Sensirion Hungary Kft., thanked the Swiss parent company for supporting the development and expansion of the Debrecen site. He added that this new logistics centre, and later the second production hall, will bring a change of scale for Sensirion and for Debrecen alike. He underlined that, to sustain what has been achieved locally, Sensirion places particular emphasis on supporting technical education, developing the next generation and nurturing talent, on vocational and university relationships, and on STEM activities.

Sensirion's expansion in Debrecen continues: under phase 2, the new production hall is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.

Endre Csukás, Investment Director of the XANGA group, noted that DIPA Kft. has operated the industrial site Sensirion moved into four years ago for more than twenty years. The Határ Úti Industrial Park covers more than 150 hectares and, of the 193 industrial parks operating in the country, holds a distinguishing and prestigious title that only twenty have received so far: that of Science and Technology Park. Sensirion, as a business generating high added value, further strengthens the Debrecen Regional and Innovation Science and Technology Park's commitment to innovation and to supporting research and development, he added.

The investment substantially increases sensor module manufacturing capacity. To that end the Swiss headquarters is also financing the relocation of new production lines here, worth up to HUF 4 billion.

Patrick Good, Director of Maintenance and Infrastructure at Sensirion, recalled at the ceremony why they chose Debrecen in 2020 when looking for a location for the Swiss company's newest European subsidiary. He expressed his pleasure that their expectations had been fully realised and that the Debrecen plant's development is already in its second phase. He emphasised that modern technology, the use of renewable energy and sustainability and recycling in operation were important requirements for this investment too. Like the Stäfa plant, the Debrecen facility was designed and built to be entirely free of fossil energy sources (geothermal energy and heat recovery, paired with a storage system and solar PV). Sensirion Hungary Kft. uses not a single cubic metre of gas across the full annual production cycle, relying solely on a heat pump system for both cooling and heating. These developments show that reducing the ecological footprint is not merely an economic consideration but a matter of principle, Patrick Good emphasised.

György Orbulov, Head of Logistics at Sensirion Hungary Kft., said in presenting the new logistics centre that instead of the previous 200 pallet spaces they will now have 2,200, while shelf area will grow from 800 m² to close to 5,000 m². Early in 2025 a space-technology forklift will arrive, whose commissioning will be an international undertaking. "Sensirion will have a modern warehouse with few equals among businesses of similar size in the region," he noted.

Krisztián Magyar, Managing Director of Sensirion Hungary Kft., emphasised that expanding the Debrecen plant is another important step for Sensirion, consistent with the company's sustainable growth strategy and its aim of creating further jobs. He noted that the Swiss parent decided on the Debrecen expansion on the basis of positive experience in recent years and strengthening demand for sensor and module solutions. He thanked colleagues in particular for demonstrating the Debrecen plant's capability through consistently high-quality work. He highlighted that several market-leading automotive companies have audited the subsidiary, which suggests that the future of sensor manufacturing in Debrecen is well founded in this field too, alongside healthcare and climate protection.
