Gyula Szűcs, Chairman and CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt., said the Group — which comprises many member companies — is a committed supporter of the Debrecen 2030 programme and of the Green City vision within it.

"We are not only supporters but active participants, since our Group is the contractor on some of the investments being delivered in the city, and we carry out many developments here. We want to be long-term supporters of the Green City programme," he said. He added that in his view an asset manager on the scale of Szinorg Universal Zrt. also has an obligation of social responsibility, which they intend to direct towards supporting the Green City programme in the coming years too. "I hope there will always be a place for the few million forints we can contribute to this, and that an ever more attractive, more liveable environment will take shape," he concluded.

Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs, chair of Debrecen's environmental working group, recalled that with the launch of the Debrecen 2030 programme the city began a new environmental policy, and that the umbrella name for the initiative is Future of Debrecen. Through the movement they want to bring as many people as possible behind green causes. "The more of us there are, the more we can do to make Debrecen liveable over the long term, to have as much green around us as possible and to look after it as well as we can. That is the essence of the Future of Debrecen movement, and we are very glad that more and more are joining us," he said.

The deputy mayor emphasised that this also matters because it sets an example to other companies and businesses operating in Debrecen to join the effort towards sustainable development. "The Civaqua programme is the flagship of Debrecen 2030, which sits within the theme of a sustainable Debrecen. We announced an ideas competition whose final round and results will be on 8 October. With the support offered by the Szinorg group we bought the electric bicycles the winners will receive. Each costs more than HUF 900,000," he said, adding that he is confident of a fruitful partnership between the Group and Future of Debrecen in the years ahead.

Szinorg Universal Zrt. is the first company to have joined the initiative.
