The City of Debrecen's Déri Frigyes Award may be conferred for outstanding achievement in Hungarian or international business, in recognition of a contribution to the city's development, prosperity and international standing that also serves the good of the local community.
One of this year's recipients is Gyula Szűcs, Chairman and CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt. and one of the Group's principal owners, who led Hunép Zrt. until the end of 2018. In those years Hunép became a defining force in the construction industry of the Eastern Hungarian region. He subsequently handed operational responsibility to younger colleagues and, with his talented team, began to concentrate on active asset management. In keeping with the Group's capabilities and with Debrecen's economic and urban development strategy, that takes the form primarily of real-estate development.
By the nature of the company's work they create things that last, and the buildings they have delivered — among them Nagyerdei Stadion, the Nagyerdő baths, the Debrecen International School, the Mercure Debrecen hotel and several units of the University of Debrecen's Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Clinic — contribute significantly to an increasingly rich cityscape. Debrecen's defining and steadily strengthening regional role calls for development projects grounded in real demand and for carefully considered development strategies. Gyula Szűcs's contribution to that process, and to its practical delivery, is beyond question.
